WICEN Exercise for Rallye des Femme on 1 December - CANCELLED

Good afternoon everyone, Well it has been confirmed that the 2018 Rallye des Femme that was planned for Saturday 1st December has been cancelled. They can't use the Tidbinbilla area that was proposed and it was too late to get approval for another location and hence it has been cancelled for this year, though there may be a chance it will be run in February 2019 if conditions are moderate and they can get a permit for the event. Thanks to those who let me know their availability, feel free to plan on doing something else on the 1st of December. I look forward to seeing a good number of people at the CRARC Christmas Party on Wednesday 28th November and please note the CRARC Committee's call for people to assist with the running of that. WICEN Exercice - Rallye des Femme - 1 December 2018

Good afternoon everyone, and apologies to those that get this multiple times, We have been advised that the Rallye des Femme (Lady Drivers Rally) is proposed to be conducted on Saturday December 1st. The propesd location is out in the Tidbinbilla / Laurel Camp / Pierces Creek area and consist of 2 stages, one run 3 times and one run once only, with HQ & Service Park being located on Tidbinbilla Lane (Paddock off the side of Paddys River Road near the entrance to the tracking Station). At this point it is unclear whether the event will actually be conducted as the Rally routes traverse thye area where the Pierces Creek bushfire has been burning and hence there are concerns for road condition, safety (burnt out trees falling, etc) and so forth and I am awaiting further advice from the BMSC organisors. The WICEN effort for this one is as follows.... SS1 Start SS1 SOS A SS1 SOS B SS1 Stop SS2 Start SS2 SOS A SS2 SOS B SS2 Stop HQ x 2 or 3 It is propose to erect the portable repeaters on Black Hill (where the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station Columnation Tower is located) as this provides good coverage of both sides of the ridge without the need for large antenna masts, etc. I have not yet arranged for a Googledoc's response sheet for people to register against, this is a heads-up only at this point and I expect to get all the "set-in-concrete" details on or before 17 November at that time would be able to provide more information, so stand-by for further emails around that time. For those interested, the National Capital Rally 2019 is being planned for Saturday 11th May 2019 and will be a new format SINGLE DAY ONLY event, so mark that in the diary now ! Follow up call for volunteers - Fitz's Challenge and Witwood horse Carriage events

Good afternoon all, we have our final WICEN events for the year coming up on Sunday 28 October. Unfortunately there is a clash with 2 events on the same day which is stretching our current personnel resources. Currently we are still short of a number of volunteers for both events. The Fitz Challenge is a long distance cycling event (total distance of up to 255km) were we provide safety monitoring checkpoints at various locations along the course. The course will be through Namadgi National Park and Paddys River Rd Tidbinbilla. The course is similar to previous years with checkpoints at Tharwa, Rendezvous Creek, Orroral Valley, Fitz Hill, Honeysuckle Creek, Corin Forest, Kangaroo Creek and Uriarra plus a headquarters station at Stromlo Cycle Park . The Witwood carriage driving event is another horse event where the participants drive small carriages behind horses (often barely bigger than the drivers) around a variety of obstacles. It takes place out on the Witwood property which is located half way between Bungendore and Braidwood. Witwood Carriage Driving Event - Call for Volunteers

[image: image.png] *Witwood Carriage Driving Event - Call for **Volunteers* WICEN will be supporting a Carriage Driving event at the property "Witwood" on the Bungendore to Braidwood road on Sunday 28 October. This is an ideal WICEN practice event for newcomers to amateur radio who wish to participate in WICEN events. We are looking for 15 operators however this can vary depending on set up for the course. All that is required of us is to pass back to control the arrival time of a competitor at an obstacle and the time they depart. This is done using 2M FM simplex, and most of the course is line of sight so only a modest set up is required. In most case you would able to operate from your vehicle using handheld tranceivers. Being a low key event we invite newcomers and recently licensed F-calls to join us and we will pair you up with a more experienced operator (if they are available) to gain experience of a WICEN event. Registered operators are provided with a snack pack lunch by the organisers. If you arrive at around 0700 you can avail your self of an egg & bacon roll and tea or coffee provided by the organisers. The event briefing starts at around 0730, set up generally begins around 0800hrs. The event runs from around 0900 to mid afternoon generally no later than 1600hrs. For those who enjoy watching cyclists suffer many hours in the saddle, Fitz’s Challenge is a real treat. For those who prefer real saddles and horses, see another post about the Witwood event. As with past years the course will be around the Brookvale area (adjacent to Doctors Flat Rd, off Mountain Creek Road) and into the Uriarra and Sherwood forests and will be an early start for most people. Request for assistance - National Capital Rally - 2nd & 3rd JUNE 2018

Hello everyone, This email is going out to people on the ACT WICEN MEMBERS and VK1-NEWS email lists and so some people may get it twice. This is the formal request for assistance for this years National Capital Rally which is being conducted Friday 1st June through Sunday 3rd June 2017. The draft itinerary and maps from the organisors reveals there will be 4 physical stages on the Saturday and 3 physical stages on the Sunday with each stage being run twice. Saturday is basically the same as last year as follows..... SS1 / SS6 will be Colverwells which is a small piece of Kowen Forest located between the Railway line and the Molonglo River accessed from the Kings Hwy near Weetalabah. This stage is approx 6.5 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0630 and a potential finish time around 1630. SS2 / SS7 will be Hibernian which is located off the Kings Hwy near where the now closed section of the old kings Hwy at "Sparrows". This stage is approx 22 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B, SOS C, SOS D & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0645 and a potential finish time around 1700. SS3 / SS8 will be Womboin Reverse which is the old "River Road" and "Womboin" stages combined into one and run in the reverse direction to previous years. This stage is approx 25 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B, SOS C, SOS D & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0730 and a potential finish time around 1715. SS4 / SS5 will be Homestead which is a very short stage at the "jump" in Kowen Forest. This stage is approx 1.7 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start & Stop only. Each competitor will go through twice before heading off to Service prior to running the 3 longer stages again later in the day. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0900 and a potential finish time around 1430. We will need 17 Field stations for the Saturday and around 6 or 7 people in HQ across the day also. Sunday is quite different to last year and is as follows..... SS9 / SS12 will be Sherwood which starts out on East West Road near Uriarra Village and runs through the forest finishing off Blue Range Road. This stage is approx 24.75 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B, SOS C, SOS D, SOS E & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0600 and a potential finish time around 1545. SS10 / SS13 will be Laurel Camp which is located in the Pearces West / Tidbinbilla part of the Brindabellas. This stage is approx 16.4 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B, SOS C & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0630 and a potential finish time around 1630. SS11 / SS14 will be Tidbinbilla which starts out near the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and weaves it's way back to Paddys River road near Cotter. This stage is approx 18.3 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B, SOS C & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0700 and a potential finish time around 1730. We will need 17 Field stations for the Sunday and around 6 or 7 people in HQ across the day also. We need to firm up people's availability and restrictions so as to be able to organise a roster. Volunteers also need to REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER on the NatCap Rally website, please get in early at http://netiernationalcapitalrally.com.au/#volunteer so you can be listed to get a T-shirt etc (there will not be an additional T-shirt run this year, if you aren't registered by the cut-off date then no shirt). Please note that you are a WICEN Radio Operator in the "Comments and Previous Experience" section (regardless of whether you have done rallies before or not) of the registration page, and select "Administration" in the "Area's interested in working" section. I am also looking for people to look after the booking out, and returning back in of the fleet of radio's used by the officials. The officials use a set of Commercial UHF frequencies and have a set of ICOM Mobile and Handheld radio's, along with other radio's borrowed from WICEN and elsewhere. The tracking of these radio's has been very problematic over the past few years and so I'd like to get some people from a radio background to handle the issueing and receipt of these items instead of it being left to "anybody who is around" at HQ. It is not very onerous and would suit somebody who has time to spare during the week leading up to the Rally (Tues 29 May - Fri 1 June) and don't mind sitting around with not much to do.
