RE-SENT DUE TO A FAILURE IN FORMATTING ! – PLEASE SEE THE TABLE AND DETAILS BELOW THE TABLE WHICH WERE MISSED BY MANY PEOPLE (I hate Web Mail !) Well it seems like last week we were involved in the National Capital Rally for 2020, however the 2021 event is only some 6 weeks off and so we need to get things moving. The National Capital Rally for 2021 is scheduled for Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of March, with Saturday stages being held in the Tidbinbilla area in the morning and moving to Kowen in the afternoon and Sunday being in the Pierces East, Tidbinbilla, Uriarra and Stromlo area's. Saturday Morning see's the running of 2 stages at Tidbinbilla with SS1 being the "Cottage 5 Ways" stage and SS2 being the "Tidbinbilla" stage, and in the afternoon moving to 6 stages (3 stages each run twice) of SS3 & SS6 being a short "Wamboin" stage that includes the 'jump' at Kowen, SS4 & SS7 being a revised "Charcoal" stage, and SS5 & SS8 being a new stage at the far western end of the ACT called "Bald Hill" stage. Sunday see's the running of 6 stages (5 stages with only 1 run twice). SS9 & SS12 is "Caves Block" being held in the Pierces East area, SS10 is "Cottage 5 Ways", and SS11 is "Tidbinbilla" and SS13 being "Hyles Block" and then onto a power stage "Bluetts Last" between Denman Prospect and the Molonglo River, this will definitely be the last rally to make use of that section of ACT land and the organisers thank the Developers - Capital Airport Group. At this stage, meet times and locations are being worked through and the following is subject to change .... WICEN NSW Exercise - invitation to participate

G’day all, as per below WICEN NSW are conducting an informal communications exercise the weekend after next (9-10 Jan) and have invited participation from further afield in NSW and the ACT. Details as per below – obviously it will be a bit difficult to get onto the Sydney VHF/UHF repeaters, but there is always the HF frequencies as listed, so get on the air and have fun. Matt VK1MA Subject: WICEN Exercise G'day, WICEN NSW, a support squad of Volunteer Rescue Association, will be conducting an informal communications exercise on the weekend 9-10 January 2021 and invites amateur radio clubs across New South Wales and ACT to participate. WICEN will establish a base station at Little Bay, Sydney, with WICEN members across NSW setting up home or field stations as part of a wider exercise. A last minute desperate call for assistance with this weekends WICEN exercise for the National Capital Rally

Good morning everyone, Whilst we have been progressing well for the Rally this weekend, we are still short of 2 more persons for HQ on Saturday and 1 for Sunday PLUS it appears we have had a withdrawal of a person which means we need a replacement for an afternoon stage on Saturday and an early stage on Sunday (7:45 meet time at Cotter, so not that early) . We have a large field of around 55 competitors (well large in comparison with the previous 10 years anyway) and this will be the only Australian Rally event to feature the top class drivers and teams this year, so if you can come out and assist it would be greatly appreciated. This is also the clubs major fundraising activity, and due to Covid-19 is one of very few such activities at all this year. I'll be busy setting up HQ today, but will check emails at random times so please, if you can help hit the REPLY button and let me know and I'll add you to the roster. Good morning everyone With about three and a half weeks to go before the running of this years National Capital Rally we say thanks to those who have already responded to our call for assistance, we have heard from VK1GH, VK2JHG, VK1AAA, VK1WX, VK1WPR, VK1FCEW, VK2NMF, VK1AAH, VK1WN, VK1FMAC, VK1MA, VK1FPRV, VK2DIG, VK1HBB & VK2CPH. We are still woefully short of people however noting we need 18 field stations on the Saturday and 9 field stations on the Sunday, plus a number of people in the HQ at Woden on both days. Recapping…the Rally is scheduled for Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of November. All stages will be run in the Uriarra / Tidbinbilla area to the west and south west of Canberra and will introduce a different order to that we have had in the past. Cancellation of the Brookvale Horse Endurance Ride (Sunday 11 October 2020)

Good evening all, the organisers of the Brookvale Horse Endurance Ride have advised us today that they have unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel the ride due to difficulties in managing numbers for safety reasons. It is disappointing that this has had to occur, but safety of people, both volunteers and participants must come first and the organisers are to be commended for making what would have been a very difficult decision. Thanks to those who put their hand up for the event – having people willing to help out so readily makes it so much easier to organise our participation in these type of activities. Unfortunately we don’t get to go out to play in the bush and watch horses, but at least you have your weekend back to be able to do something else (maybe go out bush and play radios instead 😊). We will be setting up a 2m repeater that will provide excellent coverage over pretty much the whole course, although some areas may be a little terrain shaded – handhelds should be OK for most of it, but we do recommend that you have a minimum 10W and an external ¼ wave or better antenna to ensure that you can get into the repeater without problems. The event organisers have secured government approval for the event and have their covid plans in place to deal with any covid issues including appropriate spacing, no physical contact, hand sanitizers, etc. Of course with this cursed pandemic, anything could happen to result in the event being cancelled, but at the moment, the event is on with a lot of work being done in the background by the organisers. Thanks Elizabeth, there have been lots of events getting cancelled of late, no certainties of anything going ahead. We are just waiting and watching them fall by the wayside one by one, so not engaging in any real preparations at the moment. Phil was just advised yesterday that the rescheduled Narooma event has been cancelled due to health NSW directions and we expect that other events being held in NSW will likely suffer the same fate (probably including the Brookvale event, but waiting advice from them). Unless things improve in Victoria and the borders reopen, I think the NCR could easily go the same way - but we will wait and see. Once we know what is happening then we will advise everyone and if they actually do go ahead will put out a call for volunteers then - fingers crossed! This leaves the traditionally busy end of the year looking decidedly quiet - at the moment the only events we have on the calendar needing support are the Brookvale Horse Endurance ride on October 11th and the rescheduled National Capital Rally on November 28th / 29th (yes planned to be a full 2 day event again). Given the ever varying impact that COVID19 is having on travel restrictions and society in general, we don't know for sure if either of these will definitely go ahead or not, but we are of course hopeful that they will - I think everyone is keen to get on with life as we once knew it! Assuming both events do occur, we will need about a dozen people for the Brookvale event and the NCR event will need lots of WICEN operators to support it.
