Fitz's challenge 2020 - cancelled

Good evening all, we have just been advised that the 2020 Fitz's Challenge has unfortunately had to be cancelled. This leaves the traditionally busy end of the year looking decidedly quiet - at the moment the only events we have on the calendar needing support are the Brookvale Horse Endurance ride on October 11th and the rescheduled National Capital Rally on November 28th / 29th (yes planned to be a full 2 day event again). Given the ever varying impact that COVID19 is having on travel restrictions and society in general, we don't know for sure if either of these will definitely go ahead or not, but we are of course hopeful that they will - I think everyone is keen to get on with life as we once knew it! Assuming both events do occur, we will need about a dozen people for the Brookvale event and the NCR event will need lots of WICEN operators to support it. Next weekends Narooma Forest Rally has been postponed to a date in September (and may be moved again) and the major National Capital Rally has moved from September to November AND made a 2-day event. With the easing of restrictions, we are getting enquiries about being able to support the various activities that we normally support and hence it's time to let you all know what they are, and when. Call for Volunteers - Two Day Walk (04-05 April 2020)

Good evening all, we have another WICEN assisted event coming up, this time it is the Two Day Walk on the weekend of 04-05 April. We need to provide operators at approximately 5 checkpoints on both the Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's walks are around Lake Burleigh Griffin and the Sunday walks will consist of various distances starting from the Tuggeranong area up to the finish point at Albert Hall (where the HQ will be located). We will also be needing 3-4 operators each day at the HQ and assistance on the Friday and Sunday to setup/pull down gear. NATIONAL CAPITAL RALLY NEXT WEEK HAS BEEN POSTPONED Good afternoon, This is being sent out via various means so you may see it 2 or 3 times, sorry, it's better you get the message a few times than miss it all together. Formal details are below, but the main gist is that the NatCap Rally planned for next weekend is now postponed to a date yet to be fixed later in the year. This is of course due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and whilst there is no real 'mass meetings' apart from maybe the service park, the organisers have opted to call it early so people travelling long distances have time to cancel their travel plans. I thank those who had volunteered to assist next weekend, and hope you can all see your way to assisting with other WICEN events during the year as well as the rescheduled NatCap when and if it occurs. Thank you again, Kind regards Cheryl Holberton Volunteers Co-ordinator Brindabella Motor Sport Club Canberra 0408 103 234 ================================================================ Netier National Capital Rally postponed Motorsport Australia wishes to advise that Canberra's opening round of the RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) has been postponed. Due to the ongoing issues surrounding COVID-19 and in consultation with the ACT Government, organisers of the Netier National Capital Rally have made the decision to postpone the 21-22 March event until later in the year. The organisers reluctantly made the decision with the health and safety of crews, volunteers and the general public in mind. Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith said it was disappointing the start of the rally season would be delayed, but logistics and travel requirements had meant the decision had to be made now. "We were contacted by event organisers who told us they felt it was no longer possible to guarantee that the event could go ahead next weekend if there were further restrictions placed on events and the community in the coming week," Smith explained. "Given the logistical challenges involved in having teams across the country travel to Canberra, including those travelling long distances such as those crews from Western Australia, the decision to postpone the event was made with enough time to allow teams to avoid any unnecessary travel. "All rally fans will be disappointed that the event cannot go ahead, but unfortunately it is a challenging time for events across Australia and around the world." The opening round of the ARC was scheduled to take place in Canberra in a week's time, however a new date will be announced as soon as possible, with a number of potential dates later in the year being discussed. Competitors who entered the opening round will receive a refund on their entry fees. Motorsport Australia will continue to liaise with all motorsport event organisers and governments across the country regarding future events in all disciplines, with an internal working group meeting regularly to discuss the issues. "Each motorsport event is very different when it comes to the number of competitors, spectators and the locations, so this decision certainly doesn't mean that all other motorsport events need to be postponed at the present time," Smith added. "Motorsport Australia is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates on its website and to members, competitors, officials and event organisers as required." Motorsport Australia also acknowledges the Federal Government's announcement today regarding the restriction on public gatherings, but believes at this time many events are in a position to continue, based on the restrictions in place. WICEN - National Capital Rally in 6 weeks (21 & 22 March 2020) Request for assistance

Hello everyone, This email is going out to people on the ACT WICEN MEMBERS email list only at this stage, a later email will go out through VK1NEWS if we need additional people.. This is the formal request for assistance for this years National Capital Rally which is being conducted Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March 2020. It is mainly a single day event on the Sunday with a Special Stage section on Saturday Evening at Kowen. The draft itinerary and details from the organisers have a single physical stage on the Saturday evening with it being being run twice in an interweaving manner and on the Sunday there are FIVE (5) physical stages in the Uriarra & Tidbinbilla areas with each being run twice, so a total of 12 stages over the weekend. Saturday's stages (SS1 & SS2) are a short stage in Kowen based around the Old Homestead area for which we require a person at the start, one at the stop and one in HQ only. Sunday stages are as follows. SS3 / SS8 will be Hyles Block which is a small piece of Forest located between Brindabella Road and the Molonglo River accessed from Brindabella Road in the Cotter to Uriarra section of the road - almost directly opposite the Uriarra Village entrance roads. This stage is approx 10.4 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0600 and a potential finish time around 1600. SS4 / SS9 will be East West which starts out on a side road from East West Road and runs through the forest finishing off in a side road from Blue Range Road. This stage is approx 10.4 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0530 and a potential finish time around 1645. SS5 / SS10 will be Blue Range which starts out on the side road from Blue Range Road a some 450 metres from the East West Stop point and runs through the forest finishing off on Sherwood Road where competitors will decend down to Mountain Creek Road. This stage is approx 11.8 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0600 and a potential finish time around 1700 SS6 / SS11 will be Cottage 5 Ways which is located in the Pearces West / Tidbinbilla part of the Brindabellas. This stage is approx 14.75 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0645 and a potential finish time around 1730. SS7 / SS12 will be Tidbinbilla which starts out near the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and weaves it's way back to Paddys River road near Cotter. This stage is approx 19.9 KM's of competitive distance and will have a Start, SOS A, SOS B & Stop. Guestimate meet time is expected to be around 0700 and a potential finish time around 1745. We will need 3 persons for Saturday and then 17 Field stations for the Sunday and around 5 or 6 people in HQ across the Sunday also. HQ is again at the Abode Hotel in Woden this year with the 'service park' in the open air carpark opposite the Abode Hotel and near the Hellenic Club in Woden. We need to firm up people's availability and restrictions so as to be able to organise a roster. Volunteers will also need to be REGISTERED AS A VOLUNTEER with the rally, plese complete the details in the 2 tables below and send them to me and I will compile a list and pass it on (no need to online register this year), please get in early so you can be listed to get a T-shirt etc. As this is only 6 weeks away, I don't have the time at present to set up a Google Docs form and so If you can assist then please email to wicen(a)crarc.ampr.org the following information.... WICEN - Call for assistance for Rallye des Femme on Saturday 7th December....

Good evening all, Now the tempo of all the WICEN activities in October are behind us, it's time to seek assistance for the RdF 2019 being planned for Sat 7th december out in Kowen Forest. This even will use 2 stages with each being run twice to make a total of 6 special stage runs. Each stage will require 3 operators, one at Start, one at Stop and one at the SOS point within the stage. HQ will need probably 4 people across the day. Meet times will probably be around 11:00 AM at Kowen, first compeptitor is due to start at1:00 PM and last competitor will probably finish by 4:30 PM based on a field of 20 cars. Operation will be on 2 Metres for both stages. So now the time for the normal "Please hit the REPLY button (not REPLY ALL) and let us know if you can assist" request. WICEN support to Fitz's Challenge 2019 - additional call for volunteers

Good evening all, a follow on call for volunteers as we are still a couple short of the numbers needed to assist with the Fitz's Challenge on Sunday 27 October. I understand that some people have not been receiving these emails, so if you know of anyone who may not have received these emails, please pass to them (I will also send this to the VK1news and VK1 reflector email lists to catch as many as I can so apologies for duplicate emails). The Fitz Challenge is a long distance cycling event (total distance of up to 255km) were we provide safety monitoring checkpoints at various locations along the course. The course will be through Namadgi National Park and Paddys River Rd Tidbinbilla. The course is the same as previous years with checkpoints at: Tharwa Village, Rendezvous Creek, Orroral Valley U-turn, Fitz Hill, Honeysuckle Creek U-turn, Corin Forest recreation facility, Kangaroo Creek U-turn and Near Uriarra Homestead. HQ at Stromlo cycle park will run two networks, one on 2m amateur band and one on an 80MHz WICEN allocation. We will need at least two operators on two shifts, total four.
