Good evening all, please find attached the roster and supporting documentation associated with the Call of the Beasts event this coming weekend. The volunteer brief appears to have one of last year’s maps in it – this year’s course (and where we will be deployed) is best represented in the two maps on pages 16&17 – the map on page 18 is I think a different part of the event.

Travellers net: The intent will be to run a travellers net probably through the Ginini or Bulls Head 2m repeater or 147.550 to at least provide closer in coverage, so please ensure that you call in on leaving home and on arrival at the event.

Timings: please note the organisers have requested that the first shift of operators manning the checkpoints arrive at the HQ (or ECC in their language) prior to 0730 on the Saturday morning for a final briefing and to collect the radio equipment prior to being led into the course by other event staff. Please do not attempt to drive directly into your CP location unless specifically directed to do so by the HQ/ECC – please check in with HQ for directions/instructions when you arrive at the farm.

Radios: We will be providing commercial UHF radios for this event which will be operating on one of our commercial UHF repeaters (probably setup at CP3). I would like to have a backup on 2m (probably 146.550 simplex) in the event that there are any issues with the UHF system – or in the event of any in confidence issues needing to be raised.

Weather: The forecast this year is looking like it might be a little wet, so please ensure that you have wet weather gear (an potentially shelter if you have this readily available) as well as a full change of dry clothes in the event that you get wet during the event. The ability to brew up a hot drink may be a good idea!

Food: The organisers advise that a BBQ breakfast and dinner will be available as will a cut lunch, but please have sufficient snacks/fallback options in the event that this fails to materialise.

If you have any issues queries, please let me know and I will do my best to answer/rectify them.

Regards

Matt
