Good evening all, apologies for those who will receive multiple copies of this email, but we are still short a couple of volunteers for WICEN support to Fitz's challenge. This event occurs next weekend (Sunday 29 October) and we still have a couple of positions that we need to fill in both the headquarters and out on the course. Seeking expressions of interest - WICEN Exercise at COOMA on Sat 4th November.....

Good evening all, and apologies to those who get this email twice. WICEN has been approached about assisting with a Car Rally being conducted at Cooma on Sat November 4th. This event is being conducted by the Light Car Club of Canberra (LCCC) and consists of 7 separate stages on council roads around Cooma. Ideally we would like to be able to have enough people to man 18 field stations with 3 in HQ, which is quite an ask of course. There is a possibility that people on SS1 & 2 could relocate to SS6 & 7 but timing would be tight. My wife Sally & I went down and drove the course recently and it looks to be a very fast set of roads for the competitors (I was averaging 90 - 100kph in my Ute). The schedule has the first car commencing from Cooma Township at 10:00 AM meaning the first stage needs to be set-up and ready around 9:00 and so I would expect a meet time of around 8:00 AM out near the Snowy Mountains Airport. Last stage is expected to finish around 5:30 PM. Travel time to Cooma from Canberra CBD is around 1Hr & 20 minutes according to Google so an early start for people wishing to attend. WICEN traffic will be on VHF and hand-held radio's are not suitable, a good mobile radio capable of 10 watts or better and a good antenna is a must for this one. All places are accessible by standard 2WD vehicles and the roads are all in good condition. All comers welcome, whether you have done a car rally before or not we can use you, but transport is your responsibility. So, who, if anyone, can assist with this exercise ? Fitz's Challenge 2017 - call for volunteers

Sent on behalf of Malcom VK1AAH, the lead organiser for WICEN support to the 2017 Fitz's Challenge. As requested below, PLEASE respond to the wicen(a)crarc.ampr.org <mailto:wicen@crarc.ampr.org> email address rather than directly to me. ------------------------------------------------------------------- In the middle of a very busy WICEN season, Fitz's challenge bicycle ride will host more than 1,000 riders on Sunday 29 October and we need about 13 volunteers to assist in the following tasks: - 4 in shifts at Stromlo Forest Park (WICEN operations and Fitz Challenge operations HQ) from 0600h to approx 1600h. - 9 operators at 8 checkpoints for safety, coordination and straggler wrangling. Various times start and stop. Note that the 'Gravel Pit' at Murray's Corner on Paddys River Rd gets two shifts to cover 0930 to 1800. This is a great opportunity for Foundation Licence and newcomers to WICEN to gain experience. We can buddy you up if you do not have the gear or are not yet confident to run solo. All checkpoints are accessible on sealed roads. A blank copy of the 2016 roster, is attached as an example as times and locations will be similar in 2017. This shows where the checkpoints are and their opening times. Coverage on 2m using the Ginini and Isaacs 2m repeaters is adequate at most checkpoints, but a mobile (10W to 60W) with external antenna is recommended. HQ radio gear and Pedal Power marshal vehicle radios will be installed at Stromlo Park on Saturday 28 October. Help with this is most welcome. The ride (and checkpoints) are in some of the region's most attractive landscapes and for WICEN operators it provides a pleasant, low noise, dust free bush experience.
